Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale: Isn't this a cool looking super car? It's made by the same people who make the Tonale or the Stelvio. But, I wonder if they could build a consumer sports car with 4 doors and five seats; three rear folding in the back with enough space to hold an unassembled couch from IKEA; something that an Audi A4 2003 1.8T could do.

Isn't this a cool looking super car? It's made by the same people who make the Tonale or the Stelvio. But, I wonder if they could build a consumer sports car with 4 doors and five seats; three rear folding in the back with enough space to hold an unassembled couch  from IKEA; something that an Audi A4 2003 1.8T could do.

But, right now this is the 33 Straddle from Alfa Romeo as built to commemorate the original 1960's model but with an all electric  variant that is appropriate for new super car market expectations.

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a legendary name in the world of high-performance automobiles, representing two distinct, highly exclusive supercars produced by the Italian automaker: the original from the 1960s and a modern homage.

The Original Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale (1967)

Widely considered one of the most beautiful cars ever made, the original 33 Stradale was a road-legal version of the Tipo 33 race car.

  • Design and History: Designed by Franco Scaglione, the car's aesthetic is a masterpiece of flowing lines and futuristic design. It featured butterfly doors and a low, dramatic profile. It was produced between 1967 and 1969.

  • Engine and Performance: It was powered by a 2.0-liter V8 engine with a dry sump, producing 230 horsepower. The car was incredibly lightweight, with a curb weight of approximately 690 kg (1,521 lbs), allowing for a top speed of 162 mph and a 0-60 mph acceleration in around 5.5 seconds.

  • Production: The 33 Stradale is exceptionally rare. Only 18 were ever built, and some of those chassis were later used to create famous concept cars. The scarcity and iconic design have made it one of the most sought-after collector's cars in the world.

The New Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale (2023)

In 2023, Alfa Romeo revived the name for a new, ultra-exclusive supercar that pays tribute to the original.

  • Design: The new 33 Stradale is heavily inspired by its predecessor, with a clear focus on the original's clean lines, sensual curves, and distinctive V-shaped shield grille. It also features butterfly doors and a "Cofango" (a single piece combining the hood and fender) that opens to reveal the mechanical components.

  • Engine and Performance: The modern 33 Stradale is offered with a choice of two powertrains:
    • Twin-Turbo V6: A 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine producing over 620 horsepower. It can achieve a top speed of 207 mph (333 km/h) and a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of under 3 seconds.
    • All-Electric: An all-electric variant with over 750 horsepower and an estimated range of around 240 miles.

    • Production: Like the original, the new 33 Stradale is a "fuoriserie" (custom-built) model, with production limited to just 33 units. All of the cars were sold before they were even officially unveiled, highlighting their exclusivity and desirability. The cars are being built by the coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera.
