When I was a kid, the Toyota 4 Runner was a soccer and hockey mom vehicle but with only 4 seats; yet it promised affordable all season durability and reliability to get you surely where you had to go like the pizzeria after getting that new box of Tide or 50 pack of Dunkin Doughnuts for all the kids; since we've been working for the local town indirectly.

This is what is offered today for this champion vehicle; now with hybrid technology.

All-New 2025 Toyota 4Runner Arrives with a Potent Hybrid Powertrain.

The highly anticipated sixth generation of the Toyota 4Runner has officially launched, and for the first time, it's available with a powerful and efficient hybrid powertrain. The 2025 4Runner, now arriving at dealerships including those in the Brampton, Ontario area, marks a significant leap forward for the iconic off-road SUV, blending its legendary toughness with modern technology and performance.

The Heart of the Beast: i-FORCE MAX Hybrid

The centerpiece of the new 4Runner is the available i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. This system pairs a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, delivering a robust 326 combined horsepower and an impressive 465 lb-ft of torque. This represents a substantial increase in power compared to the outgoing V6 engine, promising improved acceleration and towing capability, with a maximum rating of up to 6,000 pounds.

This powertrain is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and is available on a wide range of trims, offering a significant performance upgrade for the rugged SUV. Fuel economy for the hybrid models is rated at approximately 10.3 L/100 km in the city and 9.5 L/100 km on the highway.

For those who prefer a traditional gasoline engine, the 2025 4Runner also offers a standard i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque.

Trims and Canadian Pricing

In Canada, the 2025 4Runner with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain is available in several well-equipped trims, catering to both off-road enthusiasts and those seeking a premium SUV experience. Pricing for the hybrid models starts at:

  • TRD Off-Road Premium (Hybrid): Starting around $70,400

  • Limited (Hybrid): Pricing details to be confirmed

  • Platinum (Hybrid): A new premium trim for the 4Runner

  • TRD Pro (Hybrid): Geared for maximum off-road performance

  • Trailhunter (Hybrid): A factory-built overlanding rig with specialized equipment

It's important to note that inventory for the 2025 4Runner, especially the hybrid models, is currently limited. Prospective buyers are encouraged to contact their local Toyota dealership for the most up-to-date information on availability and specific pricing.

Off-Road Prowess and Modern Features

Built on the rugged TNGA-F global truck platform, shared with the new Tacoma and Tundra, the 2025 4Runner retains its body-on-frame construction for superior off-road capability and durability.

Off-road-focused trims like the TRD Pro and the new Trailhunter come equipped with advanced features such as:

  • A new Stabilizer Bar Disconnect Mechanism for increased wheel articulation.

  • Upgraded suspension systems from brands like FOX and Old Man Emu

  • Multi-Terrain Select with Crawl Control.

  • Robust underbody protection.

Inside, the new 4Runner receives a much-needed technological overhaul. Depending on the trim, you'll find an 8-inch or a new 14-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. All models will also come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, a suite of advanced safety and driver-assistance features. The signature power rear window, a fan-favorite feature, makes its return.
