The Ageless Vehicle Design.
This is because the consumer is always demanding new things or the reality of competition in the market says that the manufacturers will send new designs to the market in the hope of winning consumer affection. What comes first though? Is it the manufacturer attempting to win us over with new designs or is it the fickle consumer who says he will not buy unless the vehicle is expressively new and exciting. It could be a bit of both.
Look at the BMW, the LADA and the Audi in the 1970's. Then look at the Corvettes or Fords in that era. There is a marked difference with the American products as evidence of the hot competition between manufacturers over car design, features and gadgetry.
This was not the European way. Ford does not make passengers cars any more but they make SUVS, CROSS OVERS and TRUCKS. It is still a busy company with much of their design becoming an international phenomenon.
In the current era, there are some unique winners on timelessness in design. Here are some easy examples.
1. The Honda Element;
2. The Hummer H2 and H2EV;
3. The Audi A4, A5 Sport Back, A6 and A8;
4. The Hyundai Palisade;
5. Jeep Wrangler, Safari 2 door and 4 door with the Hybrid models;
6. The Porsche Taycan;
7. The Tesla models;
8. The Toyota FJ Cruiser, the Land cruiser and the newest 2026 Highlander;
9. The Volkswagen Atlas, ID3 and ID4; Volkswagen CC;
10 BMW X2.
11. The Honda Prologue;
and the
12. The Benz SUV utility truck; the one that looks like its competing with an old Range Rover 1970's style Defender.
In terms of timelessness, an SUV should be designed with sufficient seating. We would prefer the Atlas over other offerings on the market but those other offerings provide more convenience to those intent on maintaining a growing family. We need the 8 seater.
Here is an example of those vehicles that are not soo timeless.
We add the Benz E class to this list of those vehicles with the not so timeless design.
There is also the Hyundai Sonata, the Honda Accord and the Ford Explorer.
The Explorer is a good design but it does not have 8 seats. But it does come in a
hybrid model.
The Volkswagen Golf is not so timeless either. It is supposed to be an affordable starter vehicle but it is not in pace with currently priced competition like the Honda Civic that offers much more for the dollar. The Golf offers nostalgia nonetheless.
